Happy Thanksgiving.

Hi friends,

It has been a hot minute since I’ve posted…like most life has been crazy. I hope everyone has been surviving. During my time away, I’ve done many a house projects, binged several tv shows, read a plethora of books, and stuffed an abhorrent amount of Make & Take crafts. At least I can’t say it’s been boring!

My bookish game has been ON POINT as I’ve went down the mystery rabbit hole this last month. Reading the likes of Ruth Ware (One by One; The Lying Game), Agatha Christie (And Then There Were None), and Emily Littlejohn (Inherit the Bones). I have loved them all. (Not to mention book club is in t-minus two days and I’m only halfway through Kitchens of the Great Midwest. Needless to say I will be binge reading tomorrow. Luckily it’s the perfect foodie read for the week of Thanksgiving!

Pictures to come because I have been crafting like crazy (as always, they are beyond colorful). In the meantime, if you’re like me, you may be in dire need of some new music. So figured I’d kick off my return to blogging with sharing my latest musical obsessions. With everything happening I’ve been a tad angstier than normal….okay maybe I’ve always been angsty…. but in my opinion, angsty music is the best music.

So stay safe, turn up the music, and rock it out. 🤘😝

Hi Friends!

Hope everyone has been surviving quarantine life. It seems like it’s been ages since I’ve posted, and I suppose it has been since I took a bit of a hiatus. Today is my second day back to work, and I am SO HAPPY to be back at the library (even if it is only once a week).

If you’re anything like me, you’ve been using quarantine life to catch up on your reading/tv bingeing (in addition to those house projects and work responsibilities). The best part of librarian life from home is being able to dive into ALL THE PROJECTS. I’ve been buckling down on book club reads, painting my kitchen (pictures to come), and knocking off a few TBR titles and shows I’ve been meaning to watch for AGES.

Hope everyone has been staying safe, busy, and happy!

What have you all been doing to keep busy these last few months?

Because apparently it’s been ages since I’ve posted what I’m currently reading, and it’s a new year so we are starting fresh with our reading goals! I really slacked last year…even though I read a lot of great books, I didn’t read nearly as much as I would have liked. As much as I love my audiobooks, my goal is to really get back into sitting down and reading daily. So here’s to picking up physical books and loving every minute of it!

In my bag:
ABC Murders by: Agatha Christie
Patty Jane’s House of Curl by: Lorna Landvik
Lord of Shadows by: Cassandra Clare

In my headphones:
The Housekeeper and the Professor by: Yoko Ogawa
Nine Women, One Dress by: Jane L. Rosen

The Young and the Restless
Criminal Minds
Desperate Housewives
The Originals
The Mandalorian

When did I become the person that starts ten books and takes ages to finish them? I’ve always had a book, audiobook, and eBook going at the same time…but now it’s getting ridiculous. Maybe it’s the Millennial in me? My attention span is the worst? Who knows…but I now am the reader that starts a million books before semi-committing to one. Which is probably why I have been finishing audiobooks at a 5-1 ratio. And even then, it’s a struggle! Has anyone else developed odd reading habits over time?!

In my bag:
Lord of Shadows by: Cassandra Clare

Author Love!

This last week I attend the ULA Conference for us library folks and it was so much fun! It’s always nice to be surrounded by fellow readers, isn’t it? We were fortunate enough to listen to the FANTASTIC Shannon Hale speak. Fun fact: I met her several years ago at a signing for Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl (she is hilarious, witty, and someone I want to be best friends with). It reminded me how much I love meeting my favorite authors! Listening to them speak about about their writing process, their inspiration, their quirks, and best of all what they are reading these days (I could sit there for DAYS).

I’m so happy to have a plethora of author events in Utah (however, I still have a number of bucket list authors I would love to listen to). Everyone should look up events in your area because they are seriously a BLAST. Here’s a snippet of my favorite events, which normally make my obsession with certain authors that much greater! (See: Shannon Hale; Lauren Oliver; Cassie Clare).

Also bonus points for any authors that write a special inscription along with their personalizations/signatures. It makes me love my book even more! So show your favorite authors some love and get out there and attend some events! You might also discover some new favorites (I’ve been to several tours with multiple authors that I wasn’t familiar with and walked away with a hefty TBR list [Dan Wells; Brodie Ashton; Debra Driza]).

Happy Reading!!

Post-Vacation Blues.

After an impromptu trip to Hawaii, I am back at work and wondering how I can possibly claw myself out of this reading slump I somehow find myself stuck in. Reading is always better on a beach, isn’t it? Well, I took a handy Nicholas Sparks book (because they never fail me), and I’m binge-reading book club (Before I Fall by Lauren Oliver), and I’m thoroughly enjoying them both (fingers crossed my rut will be over!!). However, I could live on the beach for AGES…this Utah weather hasn’t quite warmed up enough for my liking. And to top it all off, I now have the ultimate post-vacation blues…it was Hawaii after all.

So if you have any ultimate anti-reading-slump favorites please send them my way, because this has been never ending for me! Also…don’t you hate when you’re in a slump and Goodreads is constantly reminding you how behind you are on your reading goals?! Negative point of the Reading Challenge. Maybe I need to get rid of it so I stop feeling so inadequate! (Has anyone tried this??)

Also Kauai Highlights: The Kountry Kitchen has the BEST coconut syrup. I now live for Puka Dogs. Wishes under waterfalls are the only way to go. I now have the urge to learn how to surf. The four hour time difference did WONDERS on my night-owl habits…is this life before 8 am?! Embrace the rain…and the humidity…and the imminent curls that surely follow.

Too soon to go back? I could get used to island life in a HURRY. Eagerly awaiting my next adventure!
