Top 10: Unusual Names

Top Ten Tuesdays are hosted weekly by The Broke and The Bookish. The topic is Unusual Names, but I am doing it slightly different, I couldn’t narrow it down to 10 because there are so many great names out there in the bookish worlds. So my list is a grouping of particular books, authors, or even trending similarities. Here they are!

1. Parvati, Hermes, Bellatrix Harry Potter Series by: J.K. Rowling Parvati and Hermes are a bit of a joke between me and my best friends because I truly adore the name Parvati. Apparently it sounds too much like Poverty and automatically should be excluded. I disagree OBVIOUSLY. :) And Bellatrix is just fabulous all around!

2. Colie, Auden, Remy Sarah Dessen Basically all of Sarah Dessen’s Protagonists. Very unique and different but not too abstract.

3. Ridley Beautiful Creatures by: Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl I’m just obsessed with the name Ridley all around. :)

4. Zenn, Gunner, Raine, Starr Possession Trilogy by: Elana Johnson I loved Zenn in the first book and then in Surrender we were introduced to Gunner, Raine, and starr…yep I’m sold. Elana Johnson has some character naming talent.

5. Xander, Indie, Cassia, Ky Matched Trilogy by: Ally Condie These ones rock. No question.

6. Yossarian Catch 22 by: Joseph Heller Seriously, how would someone come up with this name. I had to include Yossarian on my list.

7. Rosalie, Bree, Embry Twilight Saga by: Stephenie Meyer These are a few of my all time favorite bookish names. They are unique and just pretty sounding.

8. Ronnie, Tris, Cia The Last Song by: Nicholas Sparks, Divergent Trilogy by: Veronica Roth, The Testing by: Joelle Charbonneau These are my top Shortened Names…NickNames?? Not sure the proper term for it. But I loved these creative versions of pretty common names. Veronica = Ronnie, Beatrice = Tris, Malencia (I realize this one isn’t exactly common :)) = Cia, also technically Colie (Nicole) should be included with this bunch also! :)

9. Tobias AKA Four Divergent Trilogy by: Veronica Roth Whichever name you call him, it rocks. A+ to Veronica Roth for Name Choice on this one.

10. Johanna, Cato, Finnick, Glamour The Hunger Games Trilogy by: Suzanne Collins I have to give a shoutout to Suzanne Collins because her entire series is full of stupendous names. These are a few of my favorites though.

I actually knew two Colie’s in high school. Didn’t like either one of them. :( BLEH! I really don’t like the name Tobias, but I love the name Four. He made my list too! Definitely agree with all of the HP and HG names. :)
